1. Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary: This place is more than 100kms from Siliguri and was developed in the year 1941 with an intention of protecting the wildlife of the region. It is home to the very famous Great Indian one-horned Rhinos apart from beautiful birds and animals like tigers, hog deer, Bengal florican. Some of the local flowers and trees of the region are also protected here, and for those in love with the tall elephant grass, they will love the beauty here.
What makes this place a sheer pleasure is the fact that one can actually be a part of the wild. You don’t need to be lucky to come across all kinds of deer and some seven and more varieties of turtles. For those who like to check on the jungles, they can even take a guided elephant riding experience here. There is a lot to be checked in the local culture, as well, because the Toto Tribe, one of the rare tribes, has its home very close to the sanctuary.
Apart from the monsoon season, which is between June and September, the sanctuary is open all throughout the year. March and April are the best months to come here, and you can come to Jaldapara via Siliguri. Trains that stop at Falakata Railway station can be also a good way to reach the sanctuary.
