Top Dooars Tourism Spots to Cover On a Vacation

Dooars spreads on a large area, with parts of it reaching even to the North East and Bhutan.  It is not of a surprise that one cannot cover each and every place on a single vacation, and therefore, you need to plan well to make the most Dooars tourism wonders. Here are two places that you can choose to cover in a week.

1.    Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary: This place is more than 100kms from Siliguri and was developed in the year 1941 with an intention of protecting the wildlife of the region. It is home to the very famous Great Indian one-horned Rhinos apart from beautiful birds and animals like tigers, hog deer, Bengal florican. Some of the local flowers and trees of the region are also protected here, and for those in love with the tall elephant grass, they will love the beauty here.

What makes this place a sheer pleasure is the fact that one can actually be a part of the wild. You don’t need to be lucky to come across all kinds of deer and some seven and more varieties of turtles. For those who like to check on the jungles, they can even take a guided elephant riding experience here. There is a lot to be checked in the local culture, as well, because the Toto Tribe, one of the rare tribes, has its home very close to the sanctuary.

Apart from the monsoon season, which is between June and September, the sanctuary is open all throughout the year. March and April are the best months to come here, and you can come to Jaldapara via Siliguri. Trains that stop at Falakata Railway station can be also a good way to reach the sanctuary. You can find good Dooars hotels and resorts within the sanctuary to stay, or you can look for hotels in the nearest city.

2.    Gorumara National Park: In the same trip, you can also cover this park that was developed in 1976. Known for having a good count of Great Indian one-horned Rhinos, this place is protected and is a pleasure to check. You can find some of the best bisons, elephants and leopards here, apart from the winter birds that come after October. Murti and Raidak are two important rivers of the region.
If you plan to stay here, you can look for the beautiful Dooars hotels and private resorts that are located nearby in Lataguri. There are also government cottages to stay, as well.

At the first glance, it may seem that both the places are too far away from one another to be covered in the same trip, but a tourist operator can help you in planning the vacations right. You can choose to hire a car for the entire car for traveling, or else, local transportation choices are good enough. Make sure that you spend at least few nights in the jungle resorts to get the first hand feel of the wildlife of Dooars, which is rare.
